The Znannya Society of Ukraine, the most significant scientific and educational public organization of our country, was founded on January 16-th 1948 as an institution of dissemination political and scientific knowledge of the USSR. Academician Palladin O.V., the president of the Academy of Science, became the first chairman of the Society. During 1948 – 1949 regional organizations of the Society were created and in 1958 public (Folk) universities (of culture, law, etc.) were founded. In November of 1990 the XII extraordinary congress of the Society Znannya of the USSR was constituted into Constituent congress of the Society Znannya of Ukraine. Prominent Ukrainian philosopher and academician Shynkaruk V. I. was elected as its first president. With more than 60 years of work experience the Znannya Society is a peculiar informal institution of the national intellectual potential realization with intent to meet scientific, educational and informational needs of Ukrainian citizens. Traditionally the Society deals with dissemination of scientific knowledge, presents the cultural achievements, elaborates and implements new informational and educational technologies, works on creating the potential information base of knowledge. The next step is to create a corporate computer network on the territory of Ukraine, which will provide an integration of the Society members` intellectual capacity and national and world informational resources.

Since 1999 the Society Znannya of Ukraine is headed by its President – academician of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the president of National academy of pedagogical sciences of Ukraine Kremen V. H. The vice-presidents of the Society are academician of National Academy of sciences of Ukraine, rector of Taras Shevchenko National university– Huberskyi L. V. and academician of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, general chief of Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine Onishchenko O. S. The Society executive body is department, led by head of management – doctor of Philisophy, professor, honoured worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine Kusherts V. I. The permanent governing body of the Board is its presidium, which consists of the president, vice-presidents of the Society, head of Board of the Society, his deputies, scientific secretary of Board, famous scientists, cultural and public figures. On a voluntary basis the Znannya Society of Ukraine unites thousands of scientists, cultural actors, educators, healthcare workers, specialists of production sphere. Regional organizations of the Znannya Society of Ukraine operate in all regions of Ukraine; republic organizations of the ARC, Kyiv and Sevastopol municipal organizations of the Society, councils and boards, which are headed by known scientists, actors of culture and civic leaders. Current organizational activity of the Society is provided by hundreds of staff members of public organization. Self-sustaining scientific and educational centers " Ukrainian studies ", "Regeneration", " Technologies of environmental protection and medicine ", " Informational technologies ", " Informational and publishing center", " Personnel ", " International policy ", " Znannya " – cruise ", " Kyiv planetarium " and others work at the board of the Society. The Ukrainian center of spiritual culture of the Znannya Society of Ukraine carries out an important scientific and educational activity for many years. The important forms of scientific and educational work are public lectures, series of lectures, constantly acting and one-time lecture course, advanced training courses, new professions schools, scientific and practical conferences and seminars, public universities, creative reports of scientific groups, discussions, excursions, etc. In 2002 the Society also founded University of modern knowledge (the president of the University – doctor of Philosophy, professor Kusherets V. I., rector – Ph. D. in Law Vedernikov Y. A.). University has its 6 branches in Ukrainian regions.
